We are often asked questions regarding the U.S. travel restrictions and the COVID-19 regulations which apply to entry to the United States. This page provides general information about quarantine in the United States and refers to all current COVID-19/quarantine regulations for the U.S.
General information about U.S. entry and quarantine
Travel to the U.S. has been allowed for many countries since November 8, 2021. However, strict hygiene guidelines have been applied.
The new regulation removes certain restrictions for foreign travelers from certain countries and introduces a uniform global rule.
Any person who enters the United States due to these requirements will be issued an attestation (Passenger attestation Statement) by the airline. This must be signed.
Notice: Individuals vaccinated against Corona in Europe (including Germany) are only given one dose of the vaccine. The CDC does not accept this practice. The CDC states that two doses of a 2-dose series of vaccinations or one dose of a 1-dose vaccine are required. Affected individuals can’t travel unless they are eligible for an exemption.
Air travel hygiene and distance rules
Stricter entry controls and quarantine requirements were established and maintained after the coronavirus pandemic.
The entry process may differ depending on the U.S. State or Port of Entry. However, there are general hygiene and distance rules (a face mask is required, a certain distance from others, regular hand washing, etc.)
Departure and Flights
- Hands disinfection
- Document control
- Complete vaccination certificate or exemption certificate
NOTE: All travelers are strongly advised to check in advance with their airline to ensure that all required documentation is available. This will help avoid any problems at check-in.
Fill in the U.S. traveler’s health declaration (Passenger attestation Statement).
Entry
- Additional proof of COVID-19 vaccine
- Additional interviews may be conducted by CBP officers if needed
Notice: U.S. quarantine regulations are subject to continuous changes. They depend on current corona case numbers. The rules can also vary depending on which U.S. state you enter.
Quarantine regulations in the U.S.
It is difficult for U.S. travelers to stay informed because of the differences between COVID-19 and quarantine regulations. There are strict quarantine regulations in certain states of the United States (Alaska and Hawaii, for example). There are few regulations in the rest of the United States. Therefore, companies and employees need to be aware of all current rules in the U.S. states through which employees want to enter the country.
When planning your trip to the United States, you might need to consider regulations from different states.
For more information on COVID-19 testing locations, visit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for more information on current quarantine regulations.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer at the border decides whether an individual is eligible to enter the United States.
When you leave the country, follow the COVID-19 and Quarantine rules
A new Corona test may be required depending on the country of destination.
This is because strict entry regulations exist for individuals who travel (back) from high-risk areas such as the United States.
For current regulations, please contact your local authorities.
